How Does the MindBody Green Functional Nutrition Training Work?
It’s helpful to know what you can expect from any potential investment of your time and money. So, here are some key pieces of information about the MindBody Green Functional Nutrition Training:
- “Functional” nutrition means that the curriculum takes a root-cause approach to health. This is different from traditional medicine, which tends to deal with symptoms and medications. You’ll learn a well-rounded approach to fixing causes of health problems, not just symptoms.
- Entirely online, autonomous, self-paced, pre-recorded video teaching program.
- No classes to attend, no assignments, no deadlines.
- Lifetime access means you can take as long as you need, or go back and re-watch sections anytime.
- The training course consists of 28 modules with 30+ hours of lessons
- Topics span an array of topics like inflammation, gut health, thyroid health, hormones, sleep, heart health, supplements, brain health, and MUCH more.
- Each topic is taught by a different expert who specializes in that area, including Dr. Mark Hyman, Dr. Caroline Leaf, Dr. Vincent Pedre, Dr. Taz Bhatia and more.
- You get a PDF study guide for each module to use for section quizzes.
- You also get one combined, comprehensive study guide for the final exam with over 600 pages of material. This serves a great quick-reference guide for use after you finish the course.
- The study guide serves almost like a textbook, but doesn’t read at all like a textbook. It’s easier to understand with graphics, colors, and simplified terminology.
- Most enrollees can complete the course in about 8-10 weeks.

Who Can Benefit From the MindBodyGreen Functional Nutrition Training?
Whether you’re a health & fitness professional, searching for answers for your own health, or just interested in holistic nutrition, this course offers practical and accessible information in a user-friendly way.
The MindBodyGreen Functional Nutrition Training is ideal if you’re newer to nutrition, but also offers benefits for health professionals who have formal nutrition education.
Benefits for Non-Health Professionals:
- The program provides a robust overview of functional health and nutrition without so many complex scientific ideas and jargon.
- It’s more affordable and faster than university or high-level certifications. Plus, no textbooks or added expenses.
- No prerequisites required. Anyone can enroll at any time.
- Personal trainers can earn CEUs from the course and will be able to offer greater value to your clients from what you learn.
- This can also be a good option if you’re considering becoming a nutrition coach in the future. While the MindBody Green Functional Nutrition Training does not certify you to as a nutrition coach, it can give you a solid foundation to start from.
Benefits for Health & Nutrition Professionals:
- Simpler language and video learning offers valuable functional nutrition information that you can immediately apply with clients and patients.
- While your sciency brain may want more “meat” at times, it’s nice to learn in a faster and more practical way than a university program.
- Require less time commitment and cost than formal education.
- The course can serve as a “taster” to help you decide if you do want to invest in a longer-term functional nutrition licensing program.
- Your science background will make it easy to understand and apply the concepts.
- As a registered dietitian who works in the functional space but wasn’t looking for a years-long licensing program at this time, I took a lot from this course. I learned many new concepts, reinforced old ones, and appreciate the study guide as an additional resource.

Other Pros of the MindBodyGreen Functional Nutrition Training
While I’ve already mentioned some benefits of the MindBodyGreen training, here are a few more positive notes:
- You get lifetime access to content, including new programming added every year at no additional cost.
- Each module is broken down into short sections or chapters that are around 10-30 minutes. This makes it a manageable way to learn and retain information while preventing feeling overwhelmed.
- The module quizzes are quite simple and the study guides have all you need to know, so the tests aren’t stressful.
- You get a Mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition Training certificate when you pass the final exam, which personal trainers can use for CEUs.
- If you’re not aiming to go into business, the course is primarily nutrition information, so you’re not wasting time and money on a course that focuses on business building.
- It’s far more affordable than most functional nutrition programs, especially when you use the code they gave me for $550 off!!! Use code HOLLY550 for your $550 discount at checkout.
Other Cons of the MindBodyGreen Functional Nutrition Training
- Licensed health professionals cannot earn CEU credits from this course.
- If business is your goal, this course is not focused on business-building. While it has a few business modules, almost all of the lessons are about nutrition.
- If you’re someone looking to become a formally licensed functional dietitian or a certified nutritionist, then this course won’t have everything you’re looking for. This is a nutrition course that just about anyone can take and understand, not a professional certification or medical training.
- The certificate awarded after completion gives the title of Mindbodygreen Functional Nutrition Expert, but I personally have a hard time with the term “expert”. I consider experts to be individuals who have spent years in education mastering these concepts, engaged in extensive scientific research, and accrued substantial practical experience. This is a training course, not a certification for nutrition expertise.
- While the simplicity of the program is a benefit, it also requires that some deeper level concepts are left out. This is fine if you’re taking it for your own personal health and learning, but it may leave you wanting more physiology and research if you’re a registered dietitian or health professional. You may want to spend more time doing additional research if you want a deeper dive into each module topic.
- It’s not a true certification program if you’re hoping to start a nutrition business because it doesn’t ensure that you understand and can apply the concepts like a more rigorous certification would require. Still, it’s a great starting point and resource to have as part of your education.
Conclusion
To be honest, I was skeptical when I started the program. But as I progressed, I discovered a wealth of information on topics that I hadn’t encountered in my previous education or certifications. The MindBodyGreen Functional Nutrition Training is also presented in such a straightforward way that it didn’t make my brain hurt like reading textbooks and scientific journal articles did when I was in school! And it’s far less time-consuming.
