Fit Tip #5 – Drink Apple Cider Vinegar
Sure, it tastes like hell, but as with many healthy things, the bad taste seems to correlate with its wonderful benefits for your body. And once you get used to it, it’s really not so bad.
Apple cider vinegar is a pretty old remedy for all sorts of things. The list of benefits is quite long, but includes:
- Aids in weight loss
- Improves digestion
- Reduces bloating
- Regulates blood sugar
- Balances PH levels
- Kills bacteria
- May help reduce cholesterol
I’ve used it for everything from an “apertif” of sorts to reduce bloating and improve digestion, to cleaning my floors and counters to using as a salad dressing ingredient. A large bottle is a great investment of about $5 or $6! Just make sure you get the unfiltered apple cider vinegar with “the mother” – the murky stuff at the bottom – that’s where the good stuff sits.
Most research seems to indicate that about 1-2 tablespoons a few times a day is the most effective for things like weight loss and improved digestion.
I like to start my morning with about a tablespoon with about 3-4 tablespoons of water. I’ll chase it with a glass of water with lemon in it since it’s not the easiest taste to stomach in the morning. I’ll repeat that before dinner when I get home from work. On the weekends, I might have another serving mid-day.
Another way to drink this is to add in other ingredients chalk full of benefits for a kind of “superfood cocktail”: apple cider vinegar, a squeeze of lemon, some fresh grated ginger, a dash or two of Ceylon cinnamon, and some Stevia or monkfruit sweetener. The cinnamon helps to reduce the bitter taste and add a natural sweetness, and the sweetener will really improve the taste without sugar.
So, try adding this one to your daily routine this year and expect to see some big benefits to your health, and hopefully your figure as well!
