What is Mushroom Hot Cocoa and Coffee?

The mushroom hot cocoa and coffee recipe in this blog is a delicious way to spice up your favorite hot beverage with a punch of superfoods. These additions have the potential to help improve endurance, immunity, sleep and stress levels. I know it sounds weird, but it tastes much better than it sounds. The mushroom has barely-there earthy quality that blends really well with coffee and chocolate.

See, I’m all about multitasking and getting the most bang for your buck, which is why I love so many of the new nutrition supplements and foods coming out these days featuring super foods and natural God-given herbs that have amazing healing powers.

I’ve become a big fan of Four Sigmatic coffees, elixirs, and mushroom cocoas for the same reasons. They’re little convenient packs that are easy to carry in a purse or lunch bag for when you need a little boost or a chocolate fix. These particular forms of mushroom coffee are basically just instant coffee with less caffeine that you stir into hot water, and tastes just like any regular coffee.

However, these packets are pretty pricey and can add up over time. And sometimes I want to add in more of my own powders and tastes, and so I decided to make my own mushroom cocoa and coffee, aka “medicinal elixirs”. My mix involves cocoa, otherwise you could simply stir in powdered mushroom to coffee.

Medicinal Mushrooms for Healing (not tripping)

Medicinal mushrooms such as cordyceps, reishi, chaga, and lion’s mane are becoming much more popular and easy to find mixed into beverages because of their healing properties. This blog is not about the benefits of mushrooms, so I won’t go deep into each type and why they’re great or why you should be using them, but I’ll give a brief overview of some of the general benefits you’ll find in the most popular ‘shrooms, as well as cacao, another superfood. Which is why, when combined or added to coffee (with antioxidants and energy boosting benefits), mushrooms drinks can be some pretty powerful natural concoctions.

Superfood Mushroom Hot Cocoa and Coffee Recipe

This is the healthy cocoa version I’ve come up with. I will usually add this into decaf coffee, or just mix with coconut or almond milk as a cocoa. You can use a mushroom blend or one particular mushroom. Cordyceps is great pre-workout, and reishi is great before bed. I’ve also added in maca to this mix for extra health benefits. It’s another adaptogen that enhances energy and mood, balances estrogen levels, and is rich in antioxidants.

Makes 2-4 servings

Mix any amount into regular or decaf coffee or 4-6 oz of coconut milk or water (according to your taste preference).

Love to duplicate it at home. They said they get their kid made for them by you? You do post a mix I read in this site for a mushroom mocha. Would this be similar to what they used at free coffee? I would appreciate anything g help you could

    • Hi Maureen, I’m sorry I’m just now seeing this comment. I’ve never been to the coffee house in Newport you mentioned. I haven’t had that coffee, so I’m not sure exactly how to make it. A couple of ideas are: coffee mixed with oat milk mixed with a mushroom powder which you can find on Amazon. Or you might like to try Ryze coffee, which is a blend of coffee, mushrooms and MCT oil. Mixed with milk it’s very good and creamy, it’s just an instant mix. You can get it at ryzesuperfoods.com and use code HOLLY15 for a discount. Sorry I can’t be more help with a recipe – as you mentioned I’ve only done mushroom mocha and the idea I just mentioned with Ryze. You can just add honey or sweetner as needed. Let me know how it goes for you, and if you find a recipe please share! 🙂
